Good morning,
Today’s photo a cumulus cloud filled blue sky over a evergreen tree bordered highway comes to us from yours truly as I captured this scene while commuting home from work on the Taconic State Parkway South, way back on April 29, 2015.
Well, It’s Monday and as I look ahead to a week, jammed packed with work and after work ministry activities, I am reminding myself of just why it is that I would fill my days with activities that would consume virtually all my “spare time” – its because God saved me and the things I have planned for the hours beyond my secular day job are a reflection of His love and His personal redemptive plan for me.
Back when I took this photo in April of 2015, I was on the shaky ground of a month’s sobriety and if you told me then that I would continue to walk for ten years in progressive freedom and victory, I’m pretty sure I would have guessed that it was only because of God, and I would have been right. God’s redemptive plan for my sobriety included:
- Reliance on His strength
- Daily Time Spent in His Presence –
- Accountability to others in the Body of Christ
- And being a part of a Bible believing body of believers – which offered Spirit-filled church services, the opportunity to serve, small groups, a Bible college, and a Christian recovery ministry – where I was blessed with solid Biblical teaching and a community where I could live out my new life in Christ.
Thank You to the men and women of Rock Solid Church. God used His word, His Spirit, and the people of a relatively small church in Hudson, NY to lead me out of the darkness and further into my new life in Christ. God’s plan worked and is continuing to work even though His call led me to another church home in Clifton Park, Starpoint Church.
God is everywhere you go after all and when you understand that following His redemptive plan for your life is the way of wisdom, you offer yourself to His service where ever you can.
Speaking of God’s way of wisdom, the In Touch with Dr. Charles Stanley devotion encourages us to walk wisely with the Lord and I am sharing it on the blog today to inspire all of us to turn from the world’s ways to the One who will show us the way to life more abundantly. Dr. Charles Stanley writes:
“How to Walk Wisely
Choose to seek God’s viewpoint by reading the Bible and following the Holy Spirit’s guidance.
Believers are to walk by faith, according to 2 Corinthians 5:7. However, we sometimes struggle to hear and apply God’s wisdom. For example, we’re called to forgive each other, but that can be difficult when we’ve been hurt (Ephesians 4:32).
Godly wisdom is the capacity to view things as the Lord does and to respond according to biblical principles. This discernment isn’t automatic. Yes, God’s Spirit lives inside believers to guide us, but each individual chooses whether to pursue the wise way.
If a person is going to walk wisely, he or she must commit to pursuing Christ. Resolving to honor the Lord transforms the way we make decisions. Instead of following instincts or impulses, we choose to seek God’s viewpoint in a given situation, searching Scripture and listening for the Holy Spirit. As a result, the Spirit’s quiet voice becomes easier to discern, and those worldly shouts fade.
You have a loving heavenly Father who honors the heartfelt commitment to walk according to His will. God assumes responsibility for offering His children sought-after wisdom and enabling them to keep walking on the right path. That’s why following Him is always the best decision.” – Charles Stanely
Amen. Confession is agreeing with God. Repentance is turning towards God’s ways and walking in them.
While most of us can be honest and admit to God that we messed up and aren’t necessarily doing things the way we should, it’s another thing to really “confess” – or to agree with God – to the point that we will repent – by actually stopping what we are doing and to start doing things according to His ways.
We know we should forgive, but we don’t do it from the heart or we simply refuse to.
We know we should stop our besetting sin, and we are actually really sorry about it and are suffering because of it, but we feel powerless to change or “inexplicably” continue in our sin despite our best intentions.
We know that scripture and Christian teachings points us to the practice of regular spiritual disciplines but they seem unnatural or we simply can’t see how we could find the time to actually do them, so we don’t and thus don’t receive their blessings.
We confess our faults in these areas, but if we don’t repent – by choosing to make a commitment to live by God’s wisdom- we will continue to reap the bad fruit of “foolish living”.
So let me encourage you to start small, by choosing one thing – one area of your life – where you “know what to do”, according to God’s wisdom, – and decide today, or relatively soon, to actually do it.
A transformed life filled with the blessings of God starts with taking small steps in God’s direction. If we draw close to God, He will lift us up. So, draw close to God and choose to “walk wisely”.
When you choose to follow the Lord in earnest, progressively, continuously, you will be amazed to discover that God had a “personal plan of redemption for your life” that went way beyond just saying a quick “one-time sinner’s prayer” to put your faith in Jesus. God makes a way for each of us to walk wisely with Him, all the days of our lives in freedom, victory, and joy.

Today’s Bible verse comes to us from “The Quick Scripture Reference for Counseling” By John G. Kruis.
(While Bible verses on various topics of Counseling can be found with a quick Google search, we encourage you to purchase this resource to support the late author’s work. (The Quick Scripture Reference for Counseling By John G. Kruis on Amazon )
This morning’s meditation verse comes from the section on Marriage, Husband/Wife Relationships.
Matthew 12:25 (ESV) Knowing their thoughts, he said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and no city or house divided against itself will stand.”
Today’s verse falls under the eighteenth point of our counseling reference guide resource section on Marriage, Husband/Wife Relationships.
18. A house divided against itself cannot stand.
Today’s Bible verse was Jesus’ response to the Pharisee’s foolish assertion that Jesus was using the powers of darkness to cast out demons, but the principle Jesus teaches here can apply to nations and to our personal relationships.
A kingdom or a house divided against itself is laid waste and simply will not stand and Christian marriage counselors everywhere will remind their clients that the marriage of a husband and wife living in contention with one another is in serious danger of collapse.
So to stop the collapsing marriage, husbands and wives are encouraged to stop the division and to find common ground where they can resolve their issues and save their marriage. It takes two to tang and in order to be reconciled to one another, both parties will have to agree to meet in the middle, with God, to find healing and restoration.

Day 161
This is My Son Whom I have chosen; listen to Him. – Luke 9:34
Moses and Elijah appeared on the Mount of Transfiguration and spoke with Jesus about the “exodus” He would soon make at Jerusalem. They represented both the law and the prophets—i.e., they were representatives of the entire Old Testament era. This era was about to pass away officially with the cross, and practically with the destruction of Jerusalem. It would be different for the disciples to let go of the past with its practices and ceremonies. Peter wanted to prolong the discussion, and their presence. But that could not be. The torch was being passed, and would be carried by Old Testament figures no longer. Now, as the Father’s voice said, they were to “listen to Him.” What He says is to replace the whole Old Testament system of outward ritual and sacrifice. So, God pointedly said, Moses and Elijah were no longer to be heard; they must listen to Christ alone. You, too, must hear Him![1]
