The Power of Life and Death

“For then I will restore
to the peoples a pure language
…” Zep. 3:9

Language is the uniquely
human position that separates us from created animals and likens us to our
Creator Who spoke the universe into existence.

First cause

In Gen. 1:3 we have the
first recorded expression of language; “Then God said…

Gen. 2:19, “Adam call
each living creature
…”

Gen. 2:23, “Adam
said

Gen. 11:1-9, God
confused mans language.

In this portion of Scripture, mans overarching proclamation
was, “let us make a name for ourselves”

Naming is an important
aspect of language in God’s economy.

We know that many Hebrew names had a portion of God’s                   Name in their expression.

We know that, “The name of the LORD is a strong tower             Pro. 18:10

We know that in Rev. 19:12, “He had a name written that
no             one knew except Himself.”

We know that we shall “receive” a “new name  Rev. 2:17

Language is, indeed, one
of our most precious gifts from God, but consider how the corruption of
language has, and does cause so many problems.

Have you ever been involved in a disagreement, verbal
battle,                   argument,
shouting match, or cross examination?

Have you ever been cussed out, shouted at, or berated?

         Have you
ever been the victim of sarcasm, or false accusation?

These are the weapons of
language which are contrary to God’s design. James 3:10 says, “Out of the
same mouth proceed blessing and cursing, My brethren, these things ought not to
be so.
” But God promises to restore to
us a pure language, Zep. 3:9, and Acts 2:3,4 is a sample of that.

Even though language
employs subtleties, nuances, and gestures that can alter it’s meaning, by and
large that active ingredient is words. Prov. 23:12 says, “Apply your heart
to instruction, And your ears to words of knowledge.”

Prophecy is a power form
of language by which we may call, “those things which do not exist as
thought they did.
” Rm. 4:17. This is employing the creating power of the
language of God, as with Ezekiel’s “dry bones”. Eze. 37:4

Proclamation is another
powerful dynamic of language. Isa. 61:1,2, “proclaim liberty…and…the
acceptable year of the
LORD.”

I Cor. 11:26, speaking
of the Lord’s supper, “you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes.” And I Pet.
2:9,proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into
His marvelous light.”

The most important
development, in God’s economy is when, “the Word became flesh and dwelt among
us.” Jn. 1:14. Jesus said, “Therefore, whatever I speak, just as the Father has
told Me, so I speak.” Jn. 13:50. and of the Holy Spirit, He said, “He will not
speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak” Jn. 16:13

We must be far more
careful, and circumspect with our speech.

Prov. 18:21 says, “The
tongue has the power of life and death…”

Paul instructs Timothy, Preach
the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort,
with all longsuffering and teaching.”
With the exception of,
“longsuffering” all these are language imperatives.

Speak the Word!!!
