Good morning,
Today’s photo of the sun shining its early morning light through the trees on the shores of the lake at High Point Camp in Hillsboro PA comes to us from yours truly as I was the only man awake and present sitting on the dock of the lake Saturday morining to witness this sight and I just had to capture the moment to remember it and to remember that when we follow God’s still small voice we will discover all kinds of things that He has just for us.
Well, it is Monday morning and I am recovering from my wild weekend at the Band of Brothers Boot Camp in Pennsylvania that I attended since Thursday evening and I am happy to report that I would highly recommend the experience to any man who is interested in having a deeper relationship with God. The boot camp was solid in its presentation of John Eldredge’s Wild at Heart material – utilizing videos of the author himself teaching at a similar bootcamp experience years ago – and also highlighted the personal testimonies of some of the men leading the camp. These “responders” encouraged the men to trust in the Lord and to let Him help them “do the work” of healing, spiritual warfare, and repentance as the lessons encouraged the participants to be the men that God created them to be – men who trusted the Lord, turned from their sin, forgave those who wounded them, sought the forgiveness of those they may have wounded, and who would stand firm in their faith and fight for their marriages and children.
The weekend gave men the permission to be men – to play competitive sports, to fish, to shoot guns, and to have fellowship with one another around campfires, mess hall meals, or back in their bunkhouses – but it also gave them designated quiet times to search their hearts and to commune with God to do the work that the material presented and what God wanted to heal. And God was moving through the camp for sure as 30 men stepped forward on Saturday afternoon to put their faith in Jesus as their Lord and Savior or to rededicate themselves to following Him.
In my haste, I left my laptop at my countryside home yesterday, so I am feeling like a fish out of water as I am composing this message on my kindle Fire tablet and I may be a bit sluggish as I am shaking off the cobwebs of fatigue that comes from changing my schedule drastically for the past four days and from losing all restraint on the sanity of my food plan.
Personally, the Lord spoke to me several times during those quiet times over the weekend and I was greatly encouraged and would endorse Band of Brothers camp weekends for a weekend retreat with the Lord or to introduce men to the concept that you can have a relationship with the Lord and still be a man! But I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t tell you that while the Band of Brothers weekend was good, it wasn’t perfect and while it gives men an opportunity to make a great start, I would have to point out that the true work begins after your wild weekend is over and you have to decide how you go forward after receiving such insights and revelations.
You spent the weekend with the Lord but will you keep walking and talking with Him now that it’s Monday? I hope those 30 men who stepped forward and all the rest will do so because I know that the freedom, healing, and peace that we receive from the Lord must be fought for, protected, and kept and the only way we can do that is to surrender our life to Jesus and to allow Him to teach us and show us His ways.
Due to technical difficulties, and time constraints… that’s it for today. God bless.
