Purity 1630 on YouTube:

Good morning,

Today’s photo a cross in front of a foreboding stone wall and beneath a clear blue sky comes to us from yours truly as I captured this scene while on a vacation mission trip in Zacapa, Guatemala back on July 12th, 2019.

Well, it’s Friday, Thank God,  and although I have some very fond memories of that mission trip in Guatemala, I will keep it real by telling you that our team did some really hard work ,building a church and doing improvements to the orphanage that hosted us, in the hot Guatemala sun. Despite the unfamiliar culture and environment, I didn’t have to worry about falling asleep while in Guatemala because the missionary work made me weary. I may have been made weary from the work but each new morning I was motivated to do it all again because I, prayerfully, will never grow weary of doing good works in service to the Lord’s kingdom wherever He may call me.

Speaking of weariness, the Turning Point with Dr. David Jeremiah devotion for today addresses that topic and I am sharing it this morning for all of us who may be a little weary after another work week. David Jeremiah writes:

“Weariness

I know your works, your labor…. [You] have labored for My name’s sake and have not become weary. – Revelation 2:2-3

Have you ever served God to the point of exhaustion? The Lord Jesus did. In John 4, Jesus was “wearied from His journey” (verse 6). In Mark 4, Jesus was so tired He slept during a storm at sea. In Mark 6:31, He suggested that He and His disciples find a quiet place away from the crowds to rest.

Even Jesus grew weary in the work. But He never grew weary of the work—and there’s a big difference between the two. Galatians 6:9 says, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up” (NIV).

The church at Ephesus spread the Word of God throughout Asia so that people everywhere heard about Christ because of this dynamic congregation. They persevered in their works and in their labor. Don’t be afraid of encountering some fatigue in whatever work God assigns you. But if you have become weary of the work, ask God to renew your vision and your strength today.” – David Jeremiah  (To support David Jeremiah’s ministry go to https://www.davidjeremiah.org/ )

God renews your hope with His comfort. That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day. God renews your spirit despite your physical troubles. – V. Gilbert Beers

As Christians, let us never grow weary of doing good because although Jesus was brought to the point of exhaustion during His earthly ministry, He did His work faithfully right up until He was called by the Father to do His atoning work of sacrifice on Calvary.

During this season of Lent, the Lord has put it on my heart to present the Stations of the Cross, one day at a time, to help us to never forget Christ’s sacrifice and the cost for our new lives in Christ. It is my hope that presenting the Stations of the Cross will help us to draw close to our Lord and Savior as we move toward Resurrection Sunday, aka Easter.

Today, we go to the eighth station, where Jesus meets the women of Jerusalem, offering words of comfort and warning on His way to His death.  The prayers and liturgy of “The Way of the Cross” leads us to pray:

(To examine and to pray through the Stations of the Cross, I will be utilizing “The Way of the Cross” PDF that you can download from the Roman Catholic Diocese of Rochester and images from Catholictradition.org).

Amen. I pray that this contemplation of Jesus receiving sympathy from the women of Jerusalem will cause you to remember the depth of the suffering that Jesus went through so we could live and that His warning to them would also cause us to care for others and those who are near and dear to us, who so desperately need the peace that only Jesus can bring.

Today’s Bible verse comes to us from “The Quick Scripture Reference for Counseling” By John G. Kruis.

This morning’s meditation verse comes from the section on Loving God.

2 Corinthians 7:1 (ESV) Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God.

Today’s verse falls under the ninth point of our counseling reference guide resource’s section on Loving God.

9. God’s love for us should move us to strive for purity.

Today’s Bible verse points to the promises of God to His beloved as our motivation for to repent of anything that would defile us and to become more like the One who died to set us free.

Guilt is a false motivator. Seeking to pay back the Lord out of guilt keeps us separated from Him because feelings of guilt keep us grounded in fear.  If we feel guilty, we rightly recognize our transgressions, but it causes us to fear that we will be punished or be separated from a close fellowship with the Lord.  While we are to fear the Lord (to respect and have reverence for Him) to guide us in wisdom, that holy fear is to drive us to obedience and to appreciate the Lord’s love for us.   Conviction of sin should cause us to see the error of our ways and the love of God that forgives us and calls us to come out of the darkness of our former or current sins.

So don’t let guilt be your motivation for sanctification, if you are in Christ, you have been declared NOT GUILTY. If you are in Christ, you have received God’s love. So let His love be your inspiration to turn from anything that would defile you and to become the person God made you to be.

Day 129

Doubtless you will quote this proverb: “Physician, heal yourself.” – Luke 4:23

If they had been willing to hear what He had to say, they would have seen many mighty works in their midst. As it was, they missed the intent of the message, and focused, instead, on how “graciously” Jesus spoke. People today get all wrapped up in the trimmings of the message, the way a preacher preaches, his voice and vocabulary, etc. That is tragic. So much so that Jesus said, “No prophet is accepted in his home town.” To them, He was but a local boy who had made it in the big city. They failed to hear Him say that He was the coming Messiah. What a tragedy! How sad that they missed their opportunity. So, Jesus told them about two Gentiles who had heard when Jews hadn’t. They knew that this was aimed at them. But, instead of learning from His teaching, they tried to kill Him! What a response. But it isn’t uncommon today. There are those who would try to kill Jesus if He were alive. The proverb still holds true.[1]
