Good morning,
Today’s photo of the sun and a pleasant blue over a decorative sidewalk pathway lined with idols and leading to a Buddhist monastery comes to us from an unknown FB friend who shared this scene from their visit to the Chuang Yen Monastery in Carmel NY back on May 23, 2022. If this memory is yours, let me know and I will photo-credit you on the blog after the fact and tell you about how I was delivered from the false path of Buddhism after being a zealous practitioner of that godless philosophy of life for almost 4 years of my life.
Well, It’s Thursday and I share today’s photo as a visual reminder to get on or to stay on the path of CHRISTIAN discipleship and to warn of the many false paths out there that promise truth and the answers to life and death but are nothing but a clever deception and a trap of Satan and the spiritual forces of darkness.
After the loss of my infant son, Holden, in the spring of 2002, my nominal faith in Christianity was destroyed by anger and grief. After walking away from the catholic church due to my sinful proclivities in my teens and twenties, and making an uneasy nominal peace with God by becoming a member of an Episcopal church when I settled down and got married in1998, the death of my son caused me to be angry with God and to walk away from the church completely, at least in my heart, 2002 from 2006 are sort of a blur because I was in functional depression and deeply into drugs and alcohol, so I might of went to church periodically during those years but my heart certainly wasn’t in it. In my mind’s eye, I was out of church completely but that might not be the case.
I do know that after years of being spiritually alone and being desperate for some truth, I began to search again in 2006 but I immediately rejected Christianity when I read a statement on TBN’s website about the Bible being written by a multitude of authors over a span of 1500 years but was somehow the inspired word of God. That statement just seemed preposterous at the time and my turn back to spiritual matters took, what I didn’t know, was a dark turn as a sought answers of the Buddhist path of enlightenment – which promises deliverance from all suffering and the attainment to a god-like status through one’s own good intentions and efforts.
Essentially Buddhists believe that their “good works” – their good karma – will help them to eventually transcend heaven and hell and cause them to gain wisdom and have godlike powers to help them to escape this cyclical realm of suffering (samsara) altogether, albeit it may take multiple life times, as Buddhist cosmology believes in reincarnation, denying the Biblical truth (Hebrews 9:27) that we have one life to live.
There are a lot of concepts based on the truth of God’s creation in Buddhist philosophy and Buddhist practices such as meditation can give one a sense of self-control and feelings of peace and happiness but it is a corrupt system because it subtly denies the existence of God and rejects the truth that has been revealed to man in Jesus Christ.
Buddhism deals with some hard truths about life and suffering but it seeks to assuage the fear of death with a lie – that we get multiple chances at life and that we can somehow overcome, by our own efforts and imagination, the reality of God’s created order and the plan for man’s redemption that He has revealed to us in Christ.
Any system of belief that denies a personal Creator God or the need to make peace with Him should be seen for the demonic system it is. So as nice as Buddhists, Hindus, or other pantheistic religions or philosophies may seem, they aren’t good because following these false paths would lead one to face the wrath of a Holy God with only the filthy rags of their good deeds and the excuse of believing a lie as the reason why they denied Him and His only begotten Son.
So don’t take your fears of life and death to a roshi, guru, sensei, or lama for answers, go to the One who made everything and who made away to have peace with Him through faith in Jesus Christ. In Christ alone, we can live and be free of all our fears.
Speaking being free of fear, the Turning Point with Dr. David Jeremiah devotion addresses that topic and I am sharing it on the blog today to encourage us all to take our anxieties and fears to God, the only One who can give us peace. David Jeremiah writes:
“Aerophobia
I sought the Lord, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears. – Psalm 34:4
Do you suffer from aerophobia, the fear of flying? The recent rash of airplane and helicopter accidents has brought this back into the news. Flight attendants are prepared to give oxygen to passengers who have panic attacks. One flight attendant said, “I’ve had situations where I’d sort of sit in the aisle and hold someone’s hand.”
Our lives are full of fear and riddled with anxieties and phobias. There are a lot of uncertainties in life, and without Christ we’re left in the chaos of fear.
But our God is a God who delivers. You can ask Him to deliver you from all your fears. That’s what the psalmist did in Psalm 34. He said, “I sought the Lord, and He…delivered me from all my fears.” The next verse says, “They looked to Him and were radiant” (verse 5). How different would your life be today if God replaced your fears with radiance? Ask Him. He knows how to do it!” – David Jeremiah
We believe every child of God can…learn to live a liberated life in Christ. We believe there is a peace of God that surpasses all understanding that will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. – Neil T. Anderson
Amen. Last night at the Celebrate Freedom Support Group, a few participants spoke about struggles with anxiety attacks and how a few of them were able to overcome their states of panic through quieting skills and by reflecting on truth from scripture and how it related to who they are in Christ. One person who had experience with common calming practices from psychology even testified that the peace that they experienced now when they prayed and meditated on Jesus and the word of God, surpassed any peace they had ever gotten from the world.
Philippians 4:6-7 (NLT) tells us to: “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”
The promise of Psalm 34:4 is true. God can deliver us from all our fears when we put our faith in Jesus and seek the peace of His presence.
So do not look to alleviate your fears anywhere else. In Christ, we find everything we need. Just keep on walking in the way of the Prince of Peace, Jesus, and rejoice that all your fears are gone through Him.

This morning’s meditation verses come from the section on Overcoming Sin – Changing.
Psalm 19:12–14 (NLT) How can I know all the sins lurking in my heart? Cleanse me from these hidden faults. Keep your servant from deliberate sins! Don’t let them control me. Then I will be free of guilt and innocent of great sin. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.
Today’s verses fall under the twenty second point of our counseling reference guide resource section on Overcoming Sin – Changing.
22. Pray earnestly, fervently for God to give you victory over sinful thoughts, words and deeds, as did the psalmist
Today’s Bible verses encourage us to go to the Lord for help to reveal the darkness of our hearts and to cause us to be pleasing to Him.
When we come to faith in Jesus Christ, we may have of learning and growing to do in terms of our sanctification. In our pre-Christ, existence we may have completely hardened our hearts to the conviction of our sins. The world, the flesh, and the devil have worked on us for our entire lives to deceive us into believing that our sins were no big deal and even after we come to faith in Jesus, we may still be resistant to seeing things God’s way.
So when we seek to be followers of Jesus, we have to go to the Lord in prayer and ask Him for help to reveal the things in our lives that are unpleasing to Him and we have to be ready to repent of the things that He reveals to us.
Any sentiments like “I don’t have to do that!” Or “I don’t have to give this up!” will be challenged if we choose to truly be disciples of Jesus. If we wish to have the harmony of a peaceful relationship with God, and to be free from the negative consequences of sin, we must intentionally choose to surrender to God’s way for our lives.
It will be difficult to turn from your old sinful ways, but when you ask the Lord for help change, we will give you the power to see what needs to go and how His way is so much better.

Day 240
Simon, Simon, I have prayed for you that your faith might not fall; – Luke 22:32
Satan was about to “sift” Peter and the others, but he who boasted that he would never betray Jesus was going to do so three times! Jesus knew that he would need His prayers to get through this trial successfully. Peter repented having fulfilled the prediction about his denials. Then, the Lord graciously restored him three times to his ministry so he would know that he had been fully forgiven for all three denials (John 21). When restored, Jesus expected him to help the other disciples. But Peter isn’t the only one who needs His prayers. We are all in such need. Thank God, therefore, that Jesus, our mediator, ever lives to make intercession for us! Are you on the brink of denial? Of falling away from faith? Then, remember, He prays for you as your Great High Priest. You are not on your own; He knows your weaknesses and suits His prayers to your failings. But when you have come through a crisis of faith, He expects you to help others who may be facing similar trials. How about it?[1]
