Good morning,
Today’s photo of sunset over Persimmon Creek, seen through the gossamer strands of a spider web, comes to us from Fred Dimmick who share this scene on social media last evening.
Well, it’s Saturday and I share Fred’s photo as an encouragement for us to keep our eyes open for the beauty in God’s creation and to reminder us of the importance of how we choose to look at the world. Just like Fred’s photo shows us a different way to see the sunset over Persimmon creek, the way we think can change our perspective of how we look at the world.
While looking at a sunset through a spider web won’t necessarily cause us any harm, as long as we keep our distance, it could. Although the risks are extremely low, on average seven people, in the United States, die from spider bites each year. If we weren’t aware of the possible danger and take precautions, we could be one of the seven!
Similarly, when we look at the world through the lens of seemingly harmless concepts like cultural, political, religious, or ideological diversity – considering different points of view – we could be negatively impacted if not killed by bad ideas that can warp people’s minds and slowly disintegrate and destroy the freedom we have enjoyed because of the good ideas of Western civilization.
Last night, I watched Os Guiness’s latest documentary, Truth Rising on YouTube , and in it he shared his personal testimony and other people’s stories that warn us of the dangers of bad ideas like communism, Marxism and radical Islam have historically resulted in the death and suffering of countless victims and how they are gaining ground and causing suffering and death in our modern society. The stories highlighted how “woke-ism”, transgender ideology, and the cancel culture of recent times are radical departures from the Christian Judeo foundations that made Western society the best in the world and how we must stand against the tyranny of these “new ideas” that are nothing more that social Marxism and a denial of the truths that made Western civilization great. The documentary presented the true stories of ordinary people who made bold stands for the truth and it encourages us all to answer the call to stand for true in this war of words and ideas.
I share this blog to share the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ and to encourage others to come to know and live by the truth that God has revealed to us in Christ’s life and teachings. I know the power of the word of God and the hope of the gospel and I seek to encourage others to come into alignment with God’s truth and His way for living that set the captives free. The word of God transformed my life and I know what the good thoughts and words from God can do.
Speaking of the good thoughts and words, the Turning Point with David Jeremiah devotion for today speaks about that topic so I am sharing it on the blog with the hope that it will encourage all of us to have a desire to have our thoughts and words to be acceptable to the Lord. David Jeremiah writes
“SPIRITUAL STRUCTURE: A WORD FOR PRAYER
Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer. – Psalm 19:14
If you have ever watched a house or building under construction, you know it is built one day at a time. The finished structure always represents the sum total of daily progress.
The same is true for building a spiritual life. What should we pray every day that will allow us to build a fruitful spiritual structure? In Psalm 19:14, the psalmist prayed for two things: what he said and what he thought about. He prayed that both his words and his thoughts would be acceptable in God’s sight. Could there be a simpler, yet more profound, prayer to pray every day? Think about how much time we spend talking and thinking each day. Our words and our thoughts are like bricks being added to a building. Over time, our life will reflect what we have thought about and talked about.
Consider memorizing Psalm 19:14 and making it a personal prayer at the beginning of each day. Ask God to help you build a spiritual life that is pleasing to Him.” – David Jeremiah

Amen. You know when I thought about the Psalmist’s prayer (that his words and thoughts be acceptable to God) I thought that it would be even better if he included “and everything thing I do” into the mix but as I thought about it I am a little glad he didn’t because if he did it could have been another Bible verse that the legalistic crowd who stress “doing Everything right” could have used to distort the grace of God into a performance-works based lie of a religion, instead of the heart focused relationship with God that this verse points to.
Why does the psalmist want every word he speaks and every thought he thinks to be acceptable to God? Because He loves Him!
David is the psalmist here, and He is known as the “man after God’s own heart”. He wanted to please God because he experienced God’s love, mercy, and grace all the days of His life. David was forgiven and loved by God despite his many failings because of his faith. His response to God’s goodness? Love and a desire to be pleasing to Him
So, as people who have also been forgiven, let us love God and pray that our thoughts and words would be acceptable to the Lord each new day.
If the meditation of our hearts are pleasing to God, our good thoughts will manifest into good words and good actions and results of those, continued over time, will be a life that good and pleasing to the Lord.

Jesus encourages us to take His narrow way and it is though faith in Him and a conscious decision to follow His example for living that we can find the abundant life of peace that God has for us.
So pick up your cross and follow the godly path of the Prince of Peace.

… all of a sudden two men in dazzling clothing stood with them. – Luke 24:4
Puzzled, Galilean women found the tomb open and empty. As they stood there confused, suddenly there materialized in their presence two men in radiant clothes. These angels came both to reassure them and to announce the resurrection of the Lord. They said, “He has risen!” and then reminded the women that Jesus had predicted His resurrection (v. 6). Note a couple of facts about angels. They always appear as men. Often they appeared in glory—“in dazzling glory.” They looked like human beings, even spoke Aramaic or Hebrew, and had no wings tucked under their robes. The women were “terrified” (v. 5), just as you or I probably would be. People become fearful in the presence of the supernatural. This probably stems from all men’s underlying sense of guilt. Characteristically, therefore, angels greet men with the words, “Fear not.” We may cease fearing because of the very fact that the angels announced: “He has risen!”[1]
