Good morning,
Today’s photo
Today’s photo of Claude Monet’s (1840-1926) oil and on canvas, “Street in Sainte-Adresse” (1867) comes to us from yours truly as I captured this work of art during my visit to the Clark Art Institute back on July 9th, 2023. This painting shows people gathered outside a pathway that leads to a church.
Well, it’s Thursday and I share Monet’s painted pathway work of art as part of my Lenten journey to recognize beauty in the things of the past and to encourage or remind us that there is no better week than Holy Week to get on or to stay on the path of Christian Discipleship, a pathway were you learn that some times less is more and that the more you give to, and create for God’s kingdom, the less you regret.
Recently, I have become more motivated to reach more people with the gospel, the message of Freedom in Christ, and the benefits of a lifestyle of Christian discipleship. But with that desire, I have been convicted that my blog and podcast messages were too long, and that my sharing multiple “insights from prominent Christian counselors and theologians” was unnecessary for what I wanted to accomplish.
My purpose is to encourage people to follow the Lord and to let people know that living by faith in the power of the Holy Spirit is a viable “alternative lifestyle” that offers healing, hope, meaning, and purpose. I’ve come to realize that I don’t have to share two morning devotions and a daily Bible verse every day to do that.
Somewhere along the line in the development of the blog and podcast, I decided to form a template in which I would share some personal observations from my life, insights regarding a morning devotional that I read, a Bible verse, and yet another Christian resource. I did this to share quality Christian resources, but I also did it with the idea that if people got nothing out of what I had to say, at least I would provide them with the work of other more esteemed or qualified Christians.
In the last few weeks, I decided that “less could be more” to chop my podcast into three parts to highlight each of the three resources that I used to share and frankly I have been exhausted in producing all of them! Yesterday, I made the executive decision to abandon my three-part template and to just share one resource each day. So, my blog will no longer include a “Bible verse of the Day” from the Quick Scripture for Counseling by John G. Kruis or an additional devotional (Pause for Power by Wiersbe).
The more I have grown as a Christian, the more I have increasingly been convinced and comforted that I don’t have to point to multiple Christian resources to encourage others; I can just point to one! Each day, I text several people a short devotional with my comments, and I am convinced that is enough to express my heart and to fulfill my purpose in sharing my hope.
I want people to know that God hasn’t forgotten about them and that He is alive and well and willing to come help those who put their trust in Jesus. Ironically, a message from the David Jeremiah devotional “Living in His Light” for today echoes the sentiments of my heart, and I am sharing it and only it to encourage all of us to know that God never forgets about us. Dr. David Jeremiah writes:
“Unforgettable
Are not five sparrows sold for two copper coins? And not one of them is forgotten before God…. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. – LUKE 12:6 –
In her memoirs, missionary Ella Marie Holmes wrote about a student, Imogini, who battled an eye infection caused by ingrown eyelashes. The girl was going to Calcutta to see a doctor about the condition. One night, Ella took Imogini on a walk, and the girl began crying. Ella thought it was because she was afraid to travel to Calcutta.
“No, no,” said the girl. “I am thinking how good God is! For a year I sat in the house and never hoped to go about again….
Now …. I am visiting, hearing the voice of friends… and I am to go to Calcutta. I thought God had forgotten me and just see what good things He has done for me!… I know now that God was planning these good things for me all the time I supposed He had forgotten all about me!”
Sometimes we feel God has forgotten us, especially when some particular prayer remains unanswered. But you are unforgettable to Him. He is still listening and planning good things for you. Be encouraged! – David Jeremiah
Amen! If we have put our faith in Jesus, we can be assured that God is with us and that no trials or difficulties that we might be going through are evidence that He has forgotten about us.
This story tells of a girl who suffered for a year and believed that God was done with her, that her life would just continue in pain and loneliness, but after she received help for a Christian missionary, she saw that God had been with her all along, planning for her good even though she didn’t know it.
This girl’s story reflects our own. There were times – indeed, we could be in them right now – where we were in pain and when we felt hopeless and forgotten. But then a light shone in the darkness of our lives to save us and to show us the Way – the new life we have in Christ, where we are led by the Holy Spirit and know that we were never forgotten and never forsaken.
Even though others may have abandoned us or forgotten about us, God never did. Little did we know, God was with us all along, and He promises to be with us all the days of our lives when we choose to put our faith in Jesus and walk with Him.
God gives us hope and a future and has good things for us somewhere in our future. Let’s walk with Him and testify to His goodness as we find out what plans He had made for us.
