Navigating Seasons on the Road to Heaven — Purity 1943

Purity 1943 on YouTube:

Good morning,

Today’s photo of an ethereal blue sky filled with wispy cumulus clouds over “Freedom Road” comes to us from yours truly, as I captured this peaceful scene while strolling down my favorite farm access roads in Easton this past Saturday. As I was walking, the perspective of the road stretching into the distance under that bright blue sky and the wispy clouds made it look like a “Highway to Heaven.” It was a moment where I felt like the Lord was reminding me of the peace and clarity we find when we keep our focus on the destination He has prepared for us.

Well, it’s Tuesday, and as we enter into the second day of the work week, I can’t help but look back as I prepare to move forward in a major way in the days ahead. Saturday’s walk down “Freedom Road” was a meaningful one because it might be one of the last walks I ever take down that old country road. I tried to soak in the joy of the present moment as I reflected on all the times and the different seasons experienced on this two-lane gravel road that I never knew existed before the Lord brought me to TammyLyn back in 2021. This coming Saturday is the big move to Glens Falls, and this season in the country is officially drawing to a close. While I am excited about moving into Haskell Avenue, I found myself reflecting on the “winter” and “spring” seasons we’ve navigated while living here—all the growth, the changes, the joys, and the pain. It’s a moment of transition that requires some courage, and I’m finding my strength by trusting that the same God who led us here is leading us into this new chapter.

Speaking of transitions and looking forward, I’m sharing today’s Turning Point with Dr. David Jeremiah devotion on the blog to encourage us to view our current struggles—whether they are physical fatigue or just the stress of a big move—through the lens of eternity.

David Jeremiah writes:

“Twins

But your sorrow will be turned into joy. — John 16:20

Some Bible verses are twins—they say exactly the same thing in slightly different words. Compare, for example, these two verses about looking at our suffering in life from the perspective of eternity:

I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. — Romans 8:18 (NIV).

For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. — 2 Corinthians 4:17 (NIV).

When we go through suffering, it’s important to look ahead to the wonder and joy we’ll experience in heaven with our Lord. When we learn to look at life from the perspective of eternity, we gain a unique perspective that lightens any load.

Just before His crucifixion, Jesus promised the disciples that their sorrow would be turned to joy. The same is true for us.

The Bible says, “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning” (Psalm 30:5). Ask God to help you put your suffering into perspective, understanding that difficulties now pale in comparison to the wonders of heaven.” — David Jeremiah

If you could see the everlasting crowns of the saints in heaven, and the great glory wherein they now rejoice, how could you dare to complain? — Thomas à Kempis

Amen. David Jeremiah’s point about having an “eternal perspective” and the Bible’s emphasis on moving forward despite difficulties reminds us of the “progressive” nature of our walk and the glory of our final destination.

The negative circumstances we face are the “light and momentary troubles.” They feel heavy and final in the moment, but from the perspective of heaven, they “pale in comparison.”

This is how we are to navigate the change from one season to the next as we keep moving forward into God’s plans for our lives and ultimately to His eternal presence. We have to keep an eternal perspective. While our circumstances and seasons change, God’s provision and character do not. We can’t get so focused on the problems of the present that we lose our peace or fail to experience the joy that is ours for the taking.

Our strength comes from living in God’s presence and living according to His wisdom. While we lean on the Lord to help us to overcome the challenges of our day, we should never forget that we are headed somewhere glorious.

So today, I encourage you to look at your life through that perspective of eternity. Don’t let the fog of your current troubles block your view of the road ahead.

If you have been focusing only on your present sufferings, ask God to show you the destination. Our walk with the Lord is continuous and progressive, leading us from here to eternity, so be courageous and trust that every step you take is bringing you closer to the joy that God has for you, both here on earth and as it is in heaven.
