Today’s photo of an early morning September sunrise over a country road comes to us from yours truly as I captured this twilight magical moment while taking a walk up Waite Road back on Sept 2nd, 2024. Let it remind us that every morning is a fresh opportunity to walk in the light of the Lord’s presence. Just as the sun breaks over the horizon, the light of Christ breaks through our lives when we realize who we are in Him.
Last night I had the pleasure of a “check-in” meeting with a brother in Christ, whom I had led through the Steps to Freedom in Christ & The Freedom in Christ Course, who has been serving in a Recovery Alive Ministry at his local church. – I was so happy to reconnect and talk recovery ministry shop with this man, who didn’t have any significant issues with substance abuse in his past but who still heard and answered the call to step up to help others to overcome their hurts, habits, and hang-ups. Having received his freedom in Christ, the Lord guided my friend’s path to help others find theirs. It’s very rewarding to encourage others and to see them take what they have learned and use it to help others, and I hope my friend’s ministry will be blessed to return the blessing that he has given to me.
All we can hope for as disciples of Jesus Christ is to be used by the Lord, to be remembered as someone who represented God’s kingdom well with the way we lived our lives, and that our good works would give God glory.
Speaking of glory, the Turning Point with David Jeremiah devotion from yesterday talked about God’s glory, and I am sharing it on the blog today to encourage us all to live the gospel and to give others a reason to shout: Glory!
“Glory!
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. – 2 Timothy 4:7
Rev. James Fleetwood, a beloved nineteenth-century Baptist preacher, died on December 20, 1862. His biographer put it vividly: “On the evening of his departure, at about nine o’clock… he commenced to praise God … and bidding goodbye to his wife [and others], with the light of heaven beaming from his emaciated countenance, he made a convulsive and strenuous effort to exclaim ‘Glory,’ And then…the weary wheels of life stood still, and his glorified spirit took its place before the throne.”
A friend of Fleetwood’s said of him, “He lived the Gospel which he preached.” Could there be a better testimony than that!
Oh, that we might all live the Gospel we preach so that when the “weary wheels of life” stand still, we will be able to shout “Glory!” and be with our Lord.
One of the best ways to spread the Gospel is by living it. Do you show others the love of Christ in your daily life? Ask God to show you opportunities to exhibit His love by helping others each day.” – David Jeremiah
To love to preach is one thing—to love those to whom we preach, quite another. Richard Cecil
Amen. One of the practices that is taught in recovery ministry to help those who wish to get free and to stay free is to take an ongoing, daily inventory of the things you say and do. A daily inventory’s purpose isn’t just to record what we think, do, and say throughout the day. The purpose of the practice is not only to raise awareness of what we are thinking, but it is also done so that we can guide our thoughts, speech, and actions to meet the standards of God’s holiness. A daily inventory helps us to continually examine our ways and guide them into the Lord’s path.
So as we observe what we are thinking and doing throughout the day, we also ask ourselves questions like:
- What am I thinking?
- What am I doing?
- Is this true?
- Is this kind?
- Is this right?
- Is this wise?
- Is this loving?
When we ask ourselves these questions, we can live in greater awareness of God’s purpose for our lives and seek to be a force for good in the world.
In the process, we not only help ourselves to clean up our own act, but we also get the opportunity to be a blessing to others.
So let the word of God inspire your walk through life each day, and let the Lord guide you into a life of living out the gospel each and every day.
