The Spirit Brings Life

 — By M.T. Clark — P-1961, 05/12/2026 — Today’s Audio Podcast

Today’s Message on YouTube:

Today’s original work of art — depicting a brilliant sun bursting into rays between deep blue-green mountains, beneath a sky filled with swirling clouds painted in coral, peach, rose, and pink, all of it reflected in a still mountain lake bordered by lush grasses and pink wildflowers — comes to us from “our man in the UK,” Philip Hand, my Facebook friend who uses his artistic talents to keep his spirits up and to give God glory. Phil shared this untitled piece with me on April 27th, 2026, and I am thinking it should be called “Sunshine Eden Valley,” because it looks like paradise.

Phil is a brother in Christ who reminds me that the gifts God gives us are meant to bear fruit in every season — even the hard ones. He paints not because life is easy, but because life with Christ is rich. His art is his testimony, the same way my writing is mine. When the Holy Spirit lives in a person, He finds a way to come out — through paint, through words, through music, through a kind word offered at the right moment. The Holy Spirit brings life wherever He goes. I am grateful for Phil and for every brother and sister in Christ who lets the Spirit move through them in their own unique way.

Well, it’s Tuesday, and as we continue into the early part of our week, it is my prayer that the Lord moves you to bring life with you wherever you go, as only you can.

———————————-

Our series, “Walking in the Spirit”, continues where we left off yesterday, where we settled the foundational truth that the Holy Spirit already lives in every believer — He is not a reward for spiritual maturity, but the seal placed on us the moment we believed.

Today, I want to take that one step further and talk about what the Spirit actually does in us when we let Him have His way. The Holy Spirit is not just a divine seal of approval. He is the very life of God dwelling in you, and where He dwells, He brings life with Him.

The Holy Spirit brings life. That is what He does. That is who He is.

Romans 8:11 declares it clearly:

“If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.” — Romans 8:11

The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the grave lives in you. Read that sentence twice.

The same divine power that walked Jesus out of the tomb on Resurrection morning is the same power dwelling in every believer right now. He is not a passive presence — He is a resurrecting one. And He brings life into every place He is given permission to dwell.

This is one of the most underappreciated truths in the Christian walk.

Many believers know intellectually that the Holy Spirit lives in them, but they have not yet learned to expect Him to bring life. They expect Him to convict them of sin (which He does). They expect Him to comfort them in grief (which He does). But they do not expect Him to actively bring life into the dead places of their daily lives.

But that is exactly what He does.

Jesus said it Himself in John 6:63: “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all.”

The flesh is not just morally weak — it is lifeless. It cannot generate the life God designed us to live. Only the Spirit can.

The Christian who tries to live the Christian life in the flesh will exhaust himself. The Christian who learns to walk in the Spirit finds himself tapping into a source of life that does not run out.

I have lived both ways, and I can tell you that the difference between a life in the Spirit and a life in the flesh is staggering. It’s the difference between life and death.

When I first started walking with the Lord, I tried to do everything in my own strength. I read my Bible because I was told that was what real Christians do. I prayed because I was supposed to and because I needed all the help I could get. I tried to overcome my struggles by gritting my teeth and trying harder.

And I failed. Repeatedly. Because the flesh is no help at all in the things of God, not really. Sure, we can discipline ourselves into new behaviors for a time, but in order to be truly changed, we need the Holy Spirit to work in us and through us.

What changed everything was learning to say, in the middle of my day:

“God, I can’t do this anymore. Help me to live the life you have for me.”

That simple, surrendered prayer is the doorway to the Spirit-led life. He is already here. He is already willing. He is just waiting for us to stop trying to do His work for Him.

This is one thing I have noticed over the years: when the Spirit is given permission to bring life, He brings it everywhere. Into our work. Into our relationships. Into our creative pursuits. Into our prayers. Into the very ordinary moments of everyday life.

Galatians 5:25 will be our anchor verse for this whole series, and it puts the Spirit-led life into one simple sentence:

“If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.” — Galatians 5:25

If we live by the Spirit — and if we belong to Christ, we do — then we are also called to keep in step with Him. Not run ahead. Not lag behind. Not pretend He isn’t there. We are to step in time with Him, follow His lead, and let Him set the pace and the direction.

Today, wherever you find yourself, the same Spirit who hovered over the waters at creation, who descended on Jesus at His baptism, who filled the Apostles at Pentecost, and who raised Christ from the dead — that same Spirit lives in you. And He wants to bring life into the places of your life that have felt dead, dry, or stuck for too long.

Stop trying to manufacture life on your own. The Holy Spirit is the source of your new life in Christ.  He dwells within you.

So, give Him permission to change you from the inside out.   And keep on walking and talking with God until you see His life and light shine through you.
