Walk the Path He Set Before You

— By M.T. Clark — P-1969, 05/21/2026 — Today’s Audio Podcast

Today’s Message on YouTube:

Today’s photo of a long wooden plank boardwalk cutting straight through tall summer grass — leading toward a wall of bright green trees under a clear blue sky — comes to us from yours truly, who captured this view on a sunny day hike at Harrier Hill Park in Hudson, NY, back on June 5, 2021.

Well, it’s Thursday, and as I do most Thursdays here on the blog, I share this pathway photo as a visual reminder or encouragement to get on or to stay on the path of Christian Discipleship. The Lord set this path before us when He called us to Himself, and He is faithful to walk it with us — one step at a time, all the way to the end.

Our series, “Walking in the Spirit,” continues today with a truth about the path itself.

Walk the Path He Set Before You

The Spirit-led life has a shape.

It is not a free-roaming wander through the woods. It is not a path you blaze for yourself. It is a path the Lord set before you before you ever met Him — laid down with intention, with a destination in mind, and with every step in place for you to one day take.

Paul writes about this in Ephesians 2:10:

“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” — Ephesians 2:10 (NKJV)

See what that says. The good works were prepared beforehand. Before you were born. Before you were saved. Before you knew the Lord’s name. He laid them down for you to walk in.

The Spirit-led life is not about manufacturing a purpose from scratch — it’s about discovering the purpose that God has already prepared for us, and then walking it out.

This is one of the most freeing truths in all of Scripture. You do not have to figure out the path. You only have to walk it.

The Holy Spirit is the One who reveals the next step. Your job is to take it.

Most believers I have known — and certainly the one I have been for sixteen years now — get tripped up not by the path itself but by the fear that we are on the wrong one.

We look at the path and ask, “Am I sure this is the path that God has for me?” We look at the next step and ask, “What if I make a wrong move?” We look at the destination we cannot yet see and ask, “Am I going the right way?”

The world, the flesh, and the devil love these questions because they paralyze us.

The Holy Spirit does not ask them. He simply leads us forward.

Hear what Jesus says about the path in John 10:27 (NKJV), where He said:

“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.”

The sheep do not analyze the shepherd. They hear His voice, and they follow. That is the entire instruction.

The shepherd knows where the path goes. The sheep do not have to know where it goes. The sheep have to know the shepherd.

I have to be honest. There have been seasons in my walk with the Lord when I was walking the path with abundant joy — grinning from ear to ear, marveling at the goodness of God, struck by how clearly He was leading me forward. And there have been other seasons when the path was harder to see, when the joy was further away, when I had to put my head down and walk by faith without a clue of where I was going.

The Lord is with us on the path in both seasons. He does not abandon us when the joy is harder to find, and He does not love us more when it comes easily.

The path is the path. He is the One leading. Our part is to keep walking.

Hebrews 12:1 calls it the race set before us. It’s the race set before us, not chosen by us. Not invented by us. It’s the path set before us by God. We are invited to follow it.

The path was here when we arrived. It will be here when we are gone. The privilege of the Spirit-led life is to walk on it with the One who laid it down.

Here is your encouragement for today and every day: the path you are on is the path that God set before you.

If you have been seeking the Lord, if you have been listening for His voice, if you have been taking the next step in faith — you are on the path. You are not lost. You are not behind. You are exactly where the Spirit is leading you, even when the destination is still hidden from your sight.

Keep walking. The Shepherd does not stop leading. And the path He has set before you does not run out. And the destination — the upward call of God in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3:14) — is closer with every step.

So, keep on walking and talking with God.
