Today’s Message on YouTube:
Today’s photo of a dirt road winding through open green pastures rolling out on both sides, running on toward a distant tree line, with a wide sky of blue and white clouds overhead comes to us from yours truly, as I captured this view of epic beauty while out walking on “Freedom Road” near our former countryside home in Easton, NY on April 11th, 2026.
Well, it’s Thursday, and I share this pathway photo as a visual reminder and encouragement to get on or to stay on the path of Christian Discipleship. Every road we walk eventually leads somewhere, and the road of following Christ leads steadily toward more of His light. Wherever you find yourself on the path today, keep walking, because the direction it is leading you to is good. No matter what trials or tribulations we may be walking through currently, God will be with us every step of the way and will one day lead us to glory.
Our series, “The Armor of God,” continues today with a truth about the direction the armored believer’s life is always heading.
The Path of the Fully Armed Disciple
The Christian life is not a single battle but a long journey, and the believer who puts on the armor of God is not merely surviving a series of disconnected skirmishes. He is walking a path that has a direction, a destination, and a trajectory that improves the farther he travels. This is one of the most encouraging truths in all of Scripture for the believer who sometimes wonders whether he is actually making any progress at all.
Solomon describes this trajectory in Proverbs 4:18 (NKJV), where he writes, “But the path of the just is like the shining sun, that shines ever brighter unto the perfect day.”
Look closely at the direction this path is heading. The path of the just is not static, and it is not declining. It is getting brighter. Solomon compares the life of the righteous to the rising of the sun, which begins as the first faint light of dawn and grows steadily stronger throughout the morning until it reaches the full brightness of midday.
The believer’s journey follows the same pattern. The light that began as a flicker at our conversion grows brighter through the years, and the path becomes clearer and more luminous the farther we go.
This is extremely important for the believer who measures their progress by a single difficult day to remember. When you are in the middle of a hard season, it can feel as though you are standing still or even sliding backward, and the enemy is quick to use that feeling against you. He wants you to believe that your walk is going nowhere, that the years of putting on the armor have produced nothing, and that the path is as dark now as it was when you began. But Solomon tells a different story. The path of the just is not measured by the brightness of a single morning. It is measured by the overall trajectory of a life that is moving steadily from dawn toward day, growing brighter with every passing year.
Notice also what this verse does not promise. It does not promise that the path is easy, or smooth, or free of obstacles. It does not promise that every day is brighter than the one before it. The sun does not climb the sky in a perfectly straight line, and there are mornings when clouds obscure its light for a time. But the overall direction is never in doubt. From dawn to noon, the light only increases, and the believer who keeps walking the path of the just will find that the trajectory of his whole life bends toward greater and greater light, even when individual days feel dim.
This is the path that the fully armed believer travels on. He puts on the armor each morning, he stands firm in the battles of each day, and he keeps moving forward along a road that is carrying him steadily toward the full light of the perfect day.
He does not have to manufacture his own progress, because the path itself is designed to become brighter as he walks it out. So keep moving forward. Keep putting on the armor. Keep standing firm. The path you are on is the path of the just, and it shines ever brighter, all the way home.
Keep on walking and talking with God.
