Faithful in Little

By M.T. Clark — P-2052 | 08/26/2026 – Today’s Audio Podcast

Today’s Message on YouTube:

Today’s photo of the sun shining brightly through the top of a tall tree standing in the middle of a lush green stand of trees, under a clear blue sky, comes to us from yours truly, as I captured this simple scene of natural beauty off of Waite Road in Easton, NY, on September 24, 2022.

Well, it’s Wednesday, and I share this photo of the sun shining right through the middle of a stand of tall trees to visually represent our arrival to another midweek summit, happy hump day, and to remind us that even in the middle of a busy week, God’s light finds a way through to us.

I took this photo during a walk on Waite Road in Easton, NY. It’s a country road I have walked many times over the years and where the Lord has spoken to me many times. Something about the way the sun found its way right through the middle of that stand of trees stopped me in my tracks that afternoon. It was a small picture of a bigger truth: God sees us even through the trees. Through the busyness of our lives and the things pulling at our attention from every side, none of them hides us from Him. God finds us right through the middle of it all, the way that sun found its way through the middle of those trees.

Speaking of the middle of the week, the Celebrate Freedom support group meets tonight at Starpoint Church. If you’re in the capital district and you’re carrying something heavy from your past, I’d love to see you there. God calls us out of our ordinary patterns of dysfunction into a new life of freedom and peace. So, come and let the Lord’s light find its way through whatever you’ve been carrying.

Speaking of being faithful in the middle of the ordinary,

Our series, “Win the Morning, Renew Your Mind,” continues today with the way faithfulness grows.

Faithful in Little

Jesus taught that the way we handle small things isn’t a small matter at all, and Luke 16:10 (NKJV) gives us the principle in one clean sentence: “He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much.”

According to the Lord, faithfulness isn’t only proven in the great moments. It’s proven, or lost, in the little ones.

This runs contrary to everything we assume. We tend to think that the little things don’t really count, that we’re simply biding our time in the small and unremarkable duties until some big moment arrives where our true faithfulness will finally show. Jesus says it doesn’t work that way.

The person who is faithful in what is least is the same person who will be faithful in much, because faithfulness is a matter of character, not a performance we turn on for special occasions. And the reverse is also true: the one who cuts corners in the small things will cut corners in the large things too. The habit of the heart is the point. How we do the little things is how we tend to do everything, because it reflects who we are.

That’s good news for the ordinary life most of us are living, because most of our life is made up of little things. Very few of us are handed great, dramatic tests of faithfulness. What we are handed is a steady stream of small ones. Our faith is proven in the morning that nobody sees, in the prayer that nobody hears, and in the small obedience that nobody would ever know we skipped. Our faithfulness is shown in our jobs, in our homes, or in a marriage that no crowd will ever applaud.

Jesus is telling us that these small things are exactly where genuine faithfulness is being built. God isn’t waiting to see what we will do in some future great moment. He’s watching, and forming us, in the small and hidden ones we are living in right now.

This reframes the whole vision of what it looks like to win the morning. The five minutes with God that no one sees, the single verse, the small step of obedience taken in private- none of these are too little to matter. They are the very ground where Jesus says faithfulness is grown.

Nobody is watching you read your Bible before dawn. There is no audience for the quiet prayer you pray with your coffee. And that hiddenness is exactly what makes it such honest ground, because faithfulness in what no one sees is faithfulness in its purest form. You aren’t performing for anyone. You are simply being faithful to God in the least, and Jesus says that is where being faithful is much.

There is great freedom in this, because it means we don’t have to wait for a big platform or a great opportunity to live a faithful life. We can be faithful today, in the small things in front of us, and in God’s eyes that isn’t a lesser faithfulness. It is the whole thing.

The believer who is faithful in the small morning habit, the small kindness, or the small act of obedience, is building the character that God can later trust with more. And even if the “more” never comes in this life, the faithfulness in the least was never wasted, because it was faithfulness to God, and He doesn’t overlook it. God notices the cup of cold water. He sees the widow’s two coins. The Lord has always paid close attention to the little things, because He knows they reveal the heart.

So let this give you peace in the middle of your ordinary days. You may feel that your faithfulness is happening on too small a stage to matter.  Whether it’s a quiet morning, a hidden obedience, or a duty no one notices, Jesus says the opposite. The least is where faithfulness is proven and grown, and the God who sees in secret is forming something real in you through these small acts of faith. Be faithful in the little things that are in front of you today. They count more than you know. It’s okay if the stage feels small because that is exactly where our Heavenly Father likes to shine His light.

Every step we take toward the Lord is a step in the right direction. So, keep on walking and talking with God.
