Choosing the Pure Way – Seeing More Clearly – Purity 1905

Purity 1905 on YouTube:

Good morning,

Today’s photo of Bernardo Bellotto’s (1721-1780), oil on canvas, “View of Pirna from Castle Sonnenstein (1758-1760) comes to us from yours truly as I captured this work of art while visiting the Springfield Museums back on December 9th, 2023.  “Although this piece is a simplified version of an earlier work, it exemplifies the technical ability and crystal clear atmosphere typical of Bellotto’s later work and illustrates the artist’s dramatic use of the contrast between light and shadow.”

Well, it’s Saturday, and as I contemplate the contrast between the light and shadow of my life and Christ and my former life of sin, I can’t help but rejoice in all that the Lord has done to help me leave my former darkness behind.  I live a life of freedom in Christ, and it is my purpose to encourage and help others to find their freedom in Christ as well.   ‘

Today, I will be leading a man through the Steps to Freedom in Christ, and I am praying that the Lord will use our prayer session to give this man a complete deliverance from any demonic strongholds that may reside in his soul. The Steps lead you to renounce your sins, unforgiveness, and sinful attitudes. and sinful attachments, taking away the enemy’s access to your life.  However, after all the praying is said and done, in order to maintain and grow in your freedom, you must commit yourself to living in the pure ways of Jesus.

After God cleanses your spirit and resolves the issues of the past, making the decision to walk away from lust and sin for good is the key to future peace and happiness. When you choose to surrender to God’s will and to live a life of Christian righteousness and purity, the Holy Spirit empowers you to become the person God created you to be, and can’t wait to see what God will do in this man’s life after today.

Speaking of getting set free in Christ and walking in the pure ways of Jesus, the Turning Point with Dr. David Jeremiah devotion for today touches on those topic so I am sharing it on the blog today to encourage us to see God’s will for our lives clearly and to choose the pure life that He has for us.

“SEEING MORE CLEARLY: SEEING GOD CLEARLY

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. – Matthew 5:8

Polishing the mirror on a giant telescope is a complex process. Removing imperfections from the surface is necessary to achieve a clear image. If one of these telescope mirrors was the size of the United States, the tallest “mountain” on the surface would be less than one inch tall.1 The more imperfections removed, the purer the reflection of the heavens will be.

There is also a connection between purity and “seeing” God. Since no one has “seen” God (John 1:18; 1 John 4:12), what did Jesus mean when He said that “the pure in heart . . . shall see God”? Ultimately, believers will see the Lord in His presence (Revelation 22:4), but for now Jesus’ words must be interpreted spiritually. The apostle John wrote that “he who does evil has not seen God” (3 John 11). Meaning the evildoer has not recognized God in His worthiness and righteousness. Just as the imperfections in a telescopic mirror can blur the vision of the heavens, so the imperfections of the heart can blur a true vision of God.

Purpose daily to live with “clean hands and a pure heart” in order to see God and enjoy His presence (Psalm 24:4). – David Jeremiah

The pure heart is God’s paradise where He delights to walk. – Thomas Watson

Amen.  Before coming to faith in Christ, we were all spiritually blind, and even though we had a grasp on the basic concepts of good and evil, we were corrupted by the world, the flesh, and the devil to redefine what was “good” and “evil” according to our circumstances and what we wanted.  Our sinful and selfish ideas caused us to excuse attitudes and actions that we know in our hearts were wrong, and we started living according to the flesh.

Doing things our way may work for a while, but eventually we will suffer for abandoning God’s pure ways.

If we are lucky, the Lord reveals the truth about Jesus to us so we can have our sins washed clean and we can start a whole new life in the purity of the things of God.

God saved us so we can live pure and holy lives, and when we put our faith in Jesus, the Holy Spirit comes to live in us and gives us the power to live according to God’s ways.

But, because we have free will,  we still must choose to live by faith.  Every day, we must choose to turn from the evil that we used to walk in and decide to do good and live the pure life that God has for us.

Through Christ, we can overcome the sins of our pasts and live a life that is righteous, pure, and holy.  So, let’s follow Jesus and allow God to help us to become the new creations that our faith gave us the power to become.

Today’s Bible verse comes to us from “The Quick Scripture Reference for Counseling” By John G. Kruis.

(While Bible verses on various topics of Counseling can be found with a quick Google search, we encourage you to purchase this resource to support the late author’s work. (The Quick Scripture Reference for Counseling  By John G. Kruis on Amazon )

This morning’s meditation verses come from the section on the Providence of God.

Ruth (The whole Book of Ruth reveals this very beautifully.)

Ruth 2:20 (NASB) (After Ruth had gleaned in Boaz’s field, Naomi praised him.) Naomi said to her daughter-in-law, “May he be blessed of the LORD who has not withdrawn his kindness to the living and to the dead.” Again Naomi said to her, “The man is our relative, he is one of our closest relatives.”

Today’s verses are the second of two passages of scripture that fall under the ninth point of our counseling reference guide resource section on the Providence of God.

9. God blesses those who by faith take refuge in him.

Today’s Bible verses are the praises of Naomi for the kindness of Boaz, and they reflect the presence of God’s provision in a desperate widow’s life.  Naomi having lost everything had returned to Israel with no definite plan, but God arranged for Naomi and Ruth to not only receive their physical needs, but He also restored them to family and gave them a future in the blood line of Jesus Christ.

When we are faithful to follow the Lord, He is faithful to provide everything we need and so much more.

Day 39 – Kid Stuff – Read Colossians 3:18–4:1

Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. – Colossians 3:20

John H. Starkey was a violent British criminal. He murdered his own wife, then was convicted for the crime and executed. The officials asked General William Booth, founder of the Salvation Army, to conduct Starkey’s funeral. Booth faced as ugly and mean a crowd as he had ever seen in his life, but his first words stopped them and held their attention: “John H. Starkey never had a praying mother!”

Children have rights, but they also have responsibilities; and their foremost responsibility is to obey. They are to obey “in everything” and not simply in those things that please themselves. Will their parents ever ask them to do something that is wrong? Not if the parents are submitted to the Lord and to each other.

Children who do not learn to obey their parents are not likely to grow up obeying any authority. They will defy their teachers, the police, their employers, and anyone else who tries to exercise authority over them. The breakdown in authority in our society reflects the breakdown of authority in the home.

Something to Ponder –  How is children’s obedience to parents significant in regard to their eventual obedience to God?[1]
